The Fall Equinox is a time of balance leading to change. During the days leading up to the equinox, after the summer solstice, the daylight is getting shorter, but is still much longer than the night and the nights are getting longer, but are still shorter than the day light.
At the time of the equinox the daylight and darkness are balanced. The day after equinox, the night is just a wee bit longer than the day light, and so it continues…
An Equinox is about balance leading to change. The “tipping point” if you will… a brief moment of balance, like the moment between taking in a deep breath and letting it out.
The balance has been tipped, now we prepare for the change.
We are going from the bright, warm, busyness of summer to the cold, dark, stillness of winter.
All of our lives are about change. Every day is a little different from the day before. Now is the time to Celebrate the abundance we’ve received and prepare to settle in and be cozy for the long quiet sleep of winter.
In times past gathering and preparation were vital for survival. If we didn’t prepare for the time when there was nothing growing, we had very little to eat. Now-a-days of course, we can just go to the grocery store and buy what we need. But there is still benefit to looking at our lives in other areas and seeing what kinds of “crops” we have harvested; in our relationships, in our food intake, in our work…etc.
Let’s take some time now to be grateful for what we have experienced so far this year in our personal lives; looking back to see what changes occurred that we like and what changes occurred that we are not pleased with. Look at your life, weigh it out, what would you like to keep and what would you like to weed out?
Let’s slow down and let the things we’ve experienced decompose and nourish the ground they were planted in. Things aren’t all black and white; the pleasant things we call “good,” the unpleasant things we call “bad”. But even the unpleasant things can bring good. They can bring positive change by helping us to clarify what we do and don’t want and with that clarity can make our lives better over-all.
